Parian, Cebu – The Navel of the Region

Cebu Parian district in 1900 Parian is one of the oldest and most historic places in the country. It started as a small community of Chinese traders in the sixteenth century, grew into the residential headquarters of the most dynamic entrepreneurs of Cebu and became the genteel district where resided the wealthiest families of the city.

Parian evolved into a distinct settlement around 1590 when Chinese traders and artisans came to reside on the north side of the Spanish settlement of Cebu which Miguel Lopez de Legazpi had founded in 1565. The Spanish settlement was the section of the port area them called ciudad.

Mactan – Mandaue Bridge

manduae mactan bridge - cebu Mactan-Mandaue Bridge or popularly called The First Mactan-Mandaue Bridge is the first of two bridges spanning across the Mactan Channel and connecting the islands of Cebu and Mactan.  The 846-meter long and 9-meter wide box truss bridge was constructed during the term of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.The construction began in 1970, a year after the declaration of Mandaue as a chartered city. It was inaugurated on July 4, 1971.  Finished in 1972 at a cost of 65 million pesos.  The bridge was designed and created wholly by Filipino engineers.

Fuente Osmeña Cebu

Fuente Osmeña (Osmeña Fountain) is a fountain built to commemorate the completion of the Osmeña Waterworks System in 1912. The waterworks system took 13 months to complete from January 1911 to February 1912 at a cost of 550,000 pesos.The fountain itself symbolizes the march to progress of the city during the American-colonial era as vital infrastructure projects are completed such as the waterworks system itself. fuente osmeña-cebu heritage
